Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced a seed donation of N150 million to support the construction of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Training Centre in Minna, a project set to boost education and professional development in the state.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Bago described the initiative as “history-making,” noting that the centre would not only serve existing and aspiring accountants but also drive development and opportunities for young people. He further revealed that 1,000 housing units would be built around the site to transform the area into a thriving academic and residential hub.
ICAN President, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, hailed the project as a legacy investment in the future of the accounting profession, particularly in the North Central Zone. He explained that the centre would serve as a hub for training, research, professional examinations, and mentorship, shaping the next generation of finance professionals.
ICAN Vice President, Queensley Sofurati Seghosime, added that the centre would open doors for students unable to access university education by training them under the Accounting Technician Scheme of West Africa, a qualification recognised across the continent.
“This project is more than bricks and mortar,” Seghosime said. “It is about giving young Nigerians the skills, confidence, and recognition to succeed, not just in Nigeria but across Africa.”
The initiative is being celebrated as a milestone that will expand educational opportunities, empower students, and strengthen the professional capacity of the region.
