AIICO Insurance Plc has deepened its commitment to sustainability with the launch of the “Recycling at AIICO Project”, an initiative designed to reduce non-biodegradable waste, promote responsible consumption, and embed eco conscious practices into the company’s culture.
The project, which began in late 2024, represents more than a corporate social responsibility effort—it reflects AIICO’s belief that true business success goes beyond profits to include safeguarding the environment for future generations. It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 13 (Climate Action).
Speaking on the initiative, AIICO’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Manager, Mrs. Abimbola Shobanjo, explained: “The Recycling at AIICO Project demonstrates that growth and sustainability can go hand in hand. We are intentional about reducing our environmental footprint and proving that success is defined not only by profit, but also by the positive legacy we leave for the future.”
The project’s key objectives include:
Minimising non-biodegradable waste across all AIICO operations.
Encouraging reuse and recycling of materials such as paper and plastics.
Engaging employees through education, sensitisation, and participation in sustainability practices.
Embedding environmental responsibility into the company’s daily business culture.
The pilot phase, rolled out at AIICO’s Ikeja office, delivered strong employee participation and measurable improvements in waste management. With its success, the initiative will now be scaled across all AIICO offices nationwide.
A cornerstone of the project is AIICO’s partnership with Wecyclers, a Nigerian waste management company that ensures collected materials are efficiently processed and recycled. This collaboration underscores the power of strategic partnerships in tackling environmental challenges while promoting local solutions.
To foster a sustained impact, AIICO conducts regular sensitisation campaigns for staff, encouraging eco-conscious behaviour at work and beyond. Waste data is also tracked and reported as part of the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures, ensuring transparency and measurable accountability.
