The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has announced a major management reshuffle aimed at improving operational efficiency, enhancing inter departmental collaboration, and driving excellence across the nation’s maritime sector.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of Public Relations, Osagie Edward, who explained that the redeployment aligns with the agency’s strategic goal of strengthening its institutional capacity and service delivery.
Under the new structure, Hajia Moji Jimoh assumes the role of Director, Administration and Human Resources; Aishatu Jidda, Director, Planning, Research and Data Management Services; Barr. Heaky Dimowo, Director, Legal Services/Board Secretary; Isichei Osamgbi, Director, SERVICOM; and Mrs. Olubusola Obasanjo Akande, Director, Western Zone.
Other appointments include Engr. Christopher Amakulo as Director, Special Duties; Ms. Gloria Anyasodo, Director, Cabotage Services; Salihu Yelwa, Director, Shipping Development; Mrs. Nneka Obianyor, Director, Reforms Coordination and Blue Economy; Umar Ibrahim Sidi, Director, Maritime Labour Services; Dr. Oma Ofodile, Director, Marine Environment Management; Mr. Buba Umar, Director, Abuja Zonal Office; and Ahmed Shittien as Special Adviser, Technical to the Director General.
Speaking on the exercise, the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, noted that the redeployment is a deliberate step to inject new energy into the system and improve coordination among departments.
“This restructuring reflects our commitment to strengthening internal processes, fostering collaboration, and driving sustainable maritime growth in Nigeria,” Mobereola stated. He urged the redeployed directors to leverage their experience and expertise to advance the agency’s strategic priorities and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global maritime arena.
In total, 56 management staff were affected in the redeployment exercise. NIMASA remains the central regulatory body responsible for shipping development, maritime safety, seafarer welfare, marine pollution control, and the promotion of Nigeria’s Blue Economy.
The latest reshuffle comes amid broader reform efforts under Dr. Mobereola’s leadership, following his appointment in March 2024. A technocrat and former Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Mobereola has been tasked with repositioning NIMASA as a more transparent, efficient, and globally competitive institution one capable of meeting the evolving demands of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
