Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, on Tuesday inaugurated the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Library Complex at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, describing the project as a landmark symbol of the state’s enduring commitment to education, knowledge, and innovation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sanwo Olu said the new library represented far more than a physical structure, calling it a living testament to the transformative power of learning and the dreams of generations to come.
This moment is deeply personal for me not because it bears my name, but because it embodies the ideals that have shaped my journey. Education remains the bridge between potential and purpose, the most enduring legacy any generation can bequeath to the next,” he stated.
The governor explained that the new facility was equipped with modern digital research tools, reading lounges, innovation labs, and expansive archives creating a space where printed words meet digital possibilities and where heritage meets innovation.
Sanwo Olu acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors, including former governors Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and Akinwunmi Ambode, toward LASU’s continuous growth and development. He added that his administration had invested heavily to complete the library and other major educational projects across the state.
“We see this not just as an infrastructure masterpiece, but as part of our ongoing investment in minds. Lagos will never stop investing in education because it is the educated mind that creates inventions, heals wounds, and redefines tomorrow,” he said.
The governor also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued commitment to human capital development and for supporting initiatives that advance education nationwide.
Sanwo Olu concluded by emphasizing that the library’s naming was not an act of self celebration but a symbol of service. “To have this library bear my name is not a monument to self, but a reminder of our shared responsibility to build a future anchored on knowledge and innovation
