Türkiye has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen economic and security cooperation with Nigeria, announcing plans to grow bilateral trade between both countries to $5 billion while jointly addressing terrorism and regional security challenges.
The commitment was made in Ankara during a joint press briefing held as part of Nigeria’s official state visit to Türkiye. Leaders from both countries reviewed existing diplomatic, economic and security relations and agreed to deepen collaboration in sectors critical to long-term development.
As part of the renewed engagement, nine bilateral cooperation agreements were signed, covering defence, military training, trade, education, media, diaspora engagement, social development and institutional capacity building.
The agreements are designed to promote stability, improve skills development, enhance investment flows and strengthen governance frameworks that support sustainable growth.
Türkiye also announced plans to establish a Joint Economy and Trade Committee, which will serve as a structured platform to drive investment, remove trade barriers and unlock new opportunities for businesses in both countries. The committee is expected to support sectors with strong growth and job-creation potential, including manufacturing, energy, services and digital skills development, with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises.
At the conclusion of the visit, both countries formally exchanged the signed agreements, marking a significant step toward deeper diplomatic, economic and security cooperation. The expanded partnership is expected to strengthen security coordination, support inclusive economic growth and create a more enabling environment for investors and enterprises in both Türkiye and Nigeria.
