An insurance Amazon and financial Guru, Dr. Njum Uma-Onyemenam was among the recipients of the prestigious National HSSE Certification Awards at the third edition of National Safety Communication Conference held at LCCI Conference and Exhibition Centre, Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday December 3, 2023.
The National HSSE Summit organized by Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR), premier Certified Safety Reporters in Africa, identified Dr Njum as a seasoned financial safety professional with over 20 years experience in strategy, business planning and management, financial control and performance management, financial analysis, investment, treasury and tax management.
The conference with the theme: “Effective Safety Data Management: Harnessing the value chain for economic development and national cohesion” was moderated by the Lagos state coordinator/ chairman, Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), Engr. Timothy Iwuagwu; featured indepth safety professional lecture from the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao who delivered his lecture through Group Captain Friday Bassey, on the topic titled “Safety Data Management and National Development”, hammered on the need to have regular safety awareness programmes which will deepen the importance of Safety and Data generation, management and communication for socio economic planning and development.
In the lecture earlier, Coach Daniel Thomas, a mercurial safety ambassador and Certified Safety Trainer, took time to dazzle the participants with his iconic style of safety training that got them asking for more.
On his part, the Safety Lead Reporter and President Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR), John Thompson said, “the conference decided to educate Nigerians on Safety Data Management because harnessing safety data value chain will positively affect our economy and national development.
He further stated that Dr Mrs Njum Uma-Onyemenam was awarded with National Safety Awards HSSE Certification for “recorded improvements achieved by strict financial safety compliance and impact of the new normal auditing innovations for accountability”.
In her response, she commended the organizers of the Summit and Certification Awards-Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR) and tasked them to widen their “scope in safety reporting and communication” towards ensuring that Nigerians familiarize themselves with HSSE procedure in all facet of our lives.
Other HSSE recipients alongside Dr Onyemenam include; ACGF Chika Eugene Njoku, Zonal Controller, Federal Fire Service Zone F, which comprises of Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states. Mr. Sunil Joshi, head, training and safety, Multi Pro Group (BHN division); Hon. Hakeem Dickson, former Director General, Lagos State Safety Commission and Accord Party Governorship Candidate of Lagos State; Engr. Tukur Mohammed Lawal, head, Environment and Community Affairs, BUA Group, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi; GM LASTMA Bolaji Oreagba and other key stakeholders in Safety and Security in Nigeria.
Njum as she popularly known has served as Chief Financial Officer in leading Insurance Companies in Nigeria, where she had been responsible for establishing and revamping the companies’ finances, investment, reporting and control framework to achieve internal and external reporting objectives.
She is currently a member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). Dr Njum is also the Chairperson of the Accounting Technical Committee of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA).
She holds an MBA from Lagos Business School, Pan Atlantic University. Member, Beta Gamma Sigma(BGS) accredited by Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Best graduating student of Actuarial Science of her class in University of Lagos, Njum is a Fellow Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and prestigious winner of the Institute’s professional exams award by Order of Merit.
She is a member of many professional bodies such as; Chartered Institute of Insurance Nigeria (CIIN), Chartered Institute of Taxation and Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria, etc.
She also serves as a member of Nigeria Insurance Industry Financial Reporting Working Group.
An avid traveler, unrepentant bookworm and music lover is a committee member of the Advocacy of Insurance Industry Tax matters through the Capital Market Implementation Committee (CAMMIC).
