As part of its ongoing commitment to alleviating poverty, the WEWAD Foundation, a non-governmental organization, has empowered women in Lagos State through a recent event held in the Makoko area.
The empowerment program featured a medical check-up for beneficiaries and provided them with essential items such as grinding machines, sewing machines, wheelchairs for the disabled, deep freezers, 50kg bags of rice, and cash gifts.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the foundation’s founder, Mrs. Amope Phillips, praising her philanthropic efforts. The Chief Imam of Makoko, Alhaji Akisemorin Olaiya, encouraged the women to pray for the country’s progress and the continued success of the WEWAD Foundation.
A representative of the foundation highlighted the organization’s mission to help women, disabled individuals, and others reach their full potential. “Our founder, Mrs. Amope Phillips, has been committed to the welfare of people, especially the disabled, widows, and less-privileged, for over 10 years,” he said. The event empowered over 150 beneficiaries from various Lagos communities, and the foundation also celebrated the opening of its new office in Makoko.
Two beneficiaries who received sewing machines, Olatunji Olayinka and Adebisi Elizabeth, expressed their joy and gratitude. Olayinka said, “I feel so excited and happy. I was not expecting it. This is a huge surprise to me. I will start sewing immediately. I’m grateful to mummy Amope for empowering me.”
The foundation’s efforts aim to bring long-term benefits to the community by offering not only material support but also health assistance, including paying medical bills for those in need.
