Applications are now open for the FAO Global AgriInno Challenge (GAC) 2026, a global innovation competition designed to support agripreneurs, startups, researchers, and innovation teams developing technology-driven solutions for sustainable and resilient agrifood systems.
The challenge is jointly organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Zhejiang University, and Pinduoduo.
Focus of the 2026 Edition
The 2026 edition places strong emphasis on strengthening agrifood systems in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), including Small Island Developing States.
These regions continue to face rising threats such as climate change, food insecurity, biodiversity loss, and limited agricultural infrastructure.
The challenge seeks scalable, tech-enabled innovations that can improve:
- Food production and agricultural efficiency
- Nutrition and healthy diets
- Environmental resilience and biodiversity protection
- Rural livelihoods and economic inclusion
- Supply chain stability and food system sustainability

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered, applicants generally must:
- Be startups, agripreneurs, researchers, or innovation teams
- Operate as legally registered entities
- Have an annual turnover of less than USD 1 million
- Be in operation for less than five years
- Demonstrate technology readiness at TRL 7–9
- Provide evidence of pilot testing or post-MVP implementation
- Include at least one team leader under the age of 35
- Commit to participating throughout the programme duration
The challenge is open globally, with special encouragement for solutions addressing the unique challenges faced by Small Island Developing States. Women-led teams and female agripreneurs are strongly encouraged to apply.
