Chevron has officially entered Guinea-Bissau’s offshore exploration sector with the acquisition of two key blocks in the MSGBC basin. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Chevron Guinea Bissau Exploration I, Ltda., the company will operate Blocks 5B (Carapau Exploration License) and 6B (Peixe Espada Exploration License) with a 90% working interest, while Petroguin, the nation’s state oil company, retains the remaining 10%. The deal has received all necessary regulatory approvals.
“Chevron is pleased to begin a new chapter with Guinea-Bissau, in line with our strategy of adding high-quality acreage to our global portfolio,” said Liz Schwarze, Vice President of Exploration at Chevron, during a ceremony in Bissau with Petroguin General Director Celedonio Vieira.

Chevron, a seasoned deepwater operator, has expanded its exploration portfolio by nearly 40% over the past two years, with new operations in Peru, Uruguay, and Namibia. The company continues to maintain a strong presence across Africa, including production and exploration in Angola and Nigeria, marking nearly a century of operations on the continent
