
As Nigeria faces increasing environmental challenges, Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) is taking bold steps to combat climate change, deforestation, and air pollution.
Under its Go Green Initiative, SEEPCO has pledged to plant 10,000 trees annually, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and carbon footprint reduction.
SEEPCO’s environmental sustainability strategy includes:
- Tree planting – 10,000 trees planted annually to combat deforestation.
- Green net installations – Over 1,000 square meters of in-house green nets set up.
- Greenhouse construction – Expansion of seedling production for long-term impact.
According to SEEPCO’s Media Specialist, Edith Afieroho, the company sees environmental stewardship as an essential part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR)
“Our commitment goes beyond compliance. We strive to make a lasting environmental impact and contribute to a cleaner, greener future,” Afieroho stated.

SEEPCO Tree-Planting Strategy and Survival Plan
SEEPCO is implementing measures to ensure the sustainability of its tree-planting initiative:
- Diverse tree species – Including Neem, Crape Myrtle, Golden Shower, and Flamboyant trees.
- Survival rate – Estimated at 60-80% with active horticultural care.
- Long-term maintenance – Teams assigned for watering, mulching, and pruning.
SEEPCO has partnered with the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and the Federal Ministry of Environment (FMEnv) to strengthen its reforestation efforts.
In addition, SEEPCO employees have volunteered to support the initiative, reflecting the company’s strong corporate culture of sustainability.
