In a bold step toward advancing women’s economic empowerment, the Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) has completed the Ondo State edition of its Queen Rider programme, distributing locally assembled tricycles to dozens of women through affordable credit options.
The event, held in Akure, is part of the ongoing nationwide rollout of the Queen Rider initiative, under the broader S.C.A.L.E. scheme—Securing Consumer Access for Local Enterprises. This programme is designed to provide productive assets to underserved populations through structured consumer credit, enabling them to participate in high-value economic activities.
Through partnerships with Gamma Mobility and Accion Microfinance Bank, the Queen Rider programme empowers at least 100 women in every Nigerian state and the FCT with credit-backed ownership of commercial transport tricycles. The initiative targets 3,700 women across Nigeria, focusing on those often excluded from formal financial services and mainstream economic sectors.
Each tricycle, assembled locally by Simba TVS, offers recipients a tangible path to income generation and long-term financial independence. Speaking at the launch, Olanike Kolawole, Executive Director of Operations at CREDICORP, stated:
“These are more than just vehicles. They represent access, ownership, and control over one’s economic future. They’re made in Nigeria, financed in Nigeria, and transforming lives across Nigeria. We are building a pipeline of dignity—helping Nigerian women move from survival to stability through credit.”
The Akure rollout drew the attention of public and private sector stakeholders, underscoring the programme’s alignment with Ondo State’s vision for inclusive economic growth and support for local industry. With Simba TVS assembling over 1,170 units daily, the programme also bolsters local manufacturing and job creation.
The Queen Rider programme is one of several strategic initiatives under CREDICORP’s mission to extend consumer credit access to 50% of Nigeria’s working population by 2030. Other initiatives include YouthCRED, which targets youth and NYSC members, and C.A.L.M., focused on financing clean energy and compressed natural gas (CNG) solutions.
By working closely with the Central Bank of Nigeria, licensed financial institutions, and local manufacturers, CREDICORP is redefining access to credit—making it a tool for inclusion, productivity, and national economic transformation.
