Diageo is set to roll out its flagship Learning for Life (L4L) programme in Lagos, Nigeria, with the goal of training 250 young people in world-class hospitality and life skills. This transformative initiative targets youths between the ages of 18 and 27, particularly those who have faced social or economic barriers to education and employment.
Learning for Life is Diageo’s global skills development initiative designed to boost employability, improve livelihoods, and support the growth of the hospitality industry. Launched in Latin America in 2008, the programme has expanded across the US, Europe, Africa, and Asia, training over 200,000 people to date.
In Nigeria, the 2025 edition of Learning for Life will focus on equipping participants with both technical and soft skills needed to thrive in the hospitality and tourism sectors. The training modules will cover a broad range of topics, including:
- Hospitality Business Essentials
- Communication & Teamwork
- Career Readiness
- Confidence and Assertiveness
- Budgeting and Financial Literacy
- Bar Skills and Customer Service
- Dealing with Sexual Harassment
- Gender and Disability Inclusion
- Sustainability Practices
Participants will undergo a four-phase programme, starting with a five-day in-person training, followed by online courses, and then placed in an 11-week internship with top hospitality businesses in Lagos. Outstanding participants may receive job offers at the end of the programme.
Programme Timeline:
- Application Window: July 14 – July 28, 2025
- Face-to-Face Training: August 11 – 15, 2025
- Online Courses: August 16 – 24, 2025
- Internship Placement: September 1 – November 17, 2025
Eligibility:
- Young Nigerians aged 18 to 27
- Residents of Lagos State or those willing to stay in Lagos for the duration of the programme
