The Federal Government has launched a digital platform that enables Nigerians to report fraudulent activities in housing estates, submit evidence, and monitor the progress of their complaints.
Managed by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the portal — https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng
— provides citizens with a safe, transparent, and user-friendly channel to hold real estate players accountable. Complaints lodged will be jointly reviewed by the Ministry, professional bodies, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary to ensure swift and credible action.
According to the Ministry, the initiative aligns with the National Housing Policy, which prioritizes stricter regulation of the housing industry, certification of estate developers, and the protection of homebuyers from fraudulent practices. It also strengthens the legal and administrative frameworks for housing delivery while ensuring all professionals in the built environment operate under proper registration.
In addition, the Ministry introduced the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS) — a digital tool designed to strengthen oversight of housing projects. The system allows real-time tracking of project implementation, evaluates contractor performance, and centralizes key project documents, including payment certificates and Bills of Quantities.
Developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the fraud-reporting portal is equipped to track and follow up on cases effectively. During the launch, technical consultants demonstrated how both platforms will function in practice.
The government stressed that fraudulent housing practices will no longer be tolerated, warning that offenders will face strict legal consequences. These platforms are expected to protect citizens, rebuild trust in Nigeria’s housing market, and usher in a new era of transparency and accountability.
This launch follows earlier reforms such as the Renewed Hope Housing Online Portal, introduced in May 2024 to manage the marketing and sale of homes under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estate Programme. Together, these digital tools are reshaping Nigeria’s housing sector, giving citizens stronger protection and greater confidence in their housing transactions.
