Three Nigerian women entrepreneurs are breaking barriers and rewriting the future of technology, as they showcased life-changing innovations to global investors and development partners at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).
The event, themed “Co-Create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, brought together leaders, investors, and innovators to spotlight Africa’s potential for growth. At its heart was a powerful session on the continent’s startup ecosystem — where Nigerian women entrepreneurs stood tall.
Among them was Kemisola Bolarinwa, founder of Nextwear Technologies, who unveiled an AI-powered device designed to detect early signs of breast abnormalities a breakthrough that could save countless women’s lives by making early intervention possible.
Anita Ngeri, founder of Nibi’s Tech, shared her vision of equipping young people in the Niger Delta with vital digital skills coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, and web design preparing the next generation for a digital-first future.
Meanwhile, Odion Ikyo, co-founder of PrimeSafePath Solutions, introduced MaternalRecord Pro, Nigeria’s first AI-powered healthcare data automation platform for primary health centres. The solution promises real-time data capture to reduce maternal mortality and improve healthcare delivery for mothers across the country.
The women innovators are alumni of the IgniteHer Bootcamp for Women Entrepreneurs, a joint initiative by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The program equips women founders with mentorship, professional networks, and access to funding breaking down the barriers that too often limit women in tech.
By stepping onto the global stage in Tokyo, these women are not just pitching products; they are presenting bold answers to some of Africa’s most pressing challenges from women’s health to maternal safety and youth empowerment.
Their stories remind the world that innovation is not just about technology, but about people and that when women are empowered, entire communities stand to benefit.
