No doubt, Girls Power initiatives has been a great source of hope to the indigents children across Nigeria.
In wider perspectives, the girl child is viewed as a second fiddle when it comes to educating a child. More especially in Africa, educating a child is heavily centred on the male while the female is considered unimportant by some myopic minded individuals. There is this popular believe that the girls child, no matter the degree attained will end up in the kitchen. This thought should be exhumed from people’s hearts as child gender equality is promoted globally.
One organization that has taken up this responsibility is the Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI). This is a collection of sound and discerning minds who respect and value the girl child and are hellbent in ensuring that the girl child has all requisite educational qualifications needed to survive the turbulent world of unemployment. GPI believes vividly that the girl child’s education should not be wasted in the kitchen as widely speculated but encouraged to be rated higher and accorded a deserved respect. Though, today there are many women across the globe who, having been able to garner high levels of education with enormous number of them rising to the academic peak of being professors etc, there are still millions of out of school girls out there all around the world yearning for avenues to be educated. The aforementioned myopic mindsets of uneducated African parents especially have terribly affected the IQ and thinking faculty of these girls coercing few of them to believe that education is only meant for the boys.
Girls’ Power Initiative is committed to change the narratives and rewrite the history of girls’ education by involving wholeheartedly in their academic advancements. The organization is ferociously against illiteracy in general perspectives but values more, the education and enlightenment of the girl child with the believe that it will go a very long way in changing the world and facilitate a better global leadership that will be for the benefit of all humanity.
