The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) and the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Abuja to jointly promote labour rights, strengthen governance, and improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
At the signing ceremony, held at CISLAC headquarters, NECA’s Director-General, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, described the agreement as a landmark alliance that unites organised business and civil society in advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation.
“While some may see the private sector and civil society as separate, we recognise a profound shared interest,” Oyerinde said. “A business cannot thrive in an unstable or less transparent environment, just as citizens deserve good governance. Our shared goals of transparency, fairness, and sustainability are inseparable.”
The partnership will harness both organisations’ strengths in research, advocacy, and network-building to influence policies that support economic growth and social welfare. Priority areas include decent work, fair taxation, climate change, gender equality, and responsible business practices.
By aligning enterprise sustainability with transparency and accountability, NECA and CISLAC aim to create a business environment that fosters innovation, protects workers’ rights, and promotes inclusive development.
