The Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for the delivery of a state-of-the-art maternal and child healthcare facility in Ugbuwangue community, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The 80-bed Renewed Hope Mother and Child Specialist Hospital was officially commissioned on Tuesday and handed over to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba. Constructed through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the facility is designed to address critical gaps in maternal and child health while supporting Nigeria’s progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
Speaking at the event, the Olu of Warri described the hospital as a “cherished and appreciated” intervention that would transform healthcare access for women and children in the community.
“Without health, there is no wealth. Wealth is meaningless without health,” the monarch said. “This hospital, without any doubt, will ultimately change the Ugbuwangue community. It is therefore well cherished and appreciated.”
He also urged residents to safeguard the facility, stressing that access roads must remain open and unobstructed at all times to ensure swift response in emergencies.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who was also present, described the project as “a beacon of hope” and commended the Federal Government for aligning with the state’s M.O.RE Agenda. He assured stakeholders that the facility would be fully integrated into the state’s healthcare system for long-term sustainability.
“This project is not just a physical structure; it is a critical step forward in achieving health-related sustainable development goals. By investing in healthcare, we are investing in the future of our state,” the governor said.
On her part, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, highlighted that the hospital represents more than just bricks and mortar, but a demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
“It reflects a vision grounded in social inclusion, equity, and the acceleration of national development outcomes. Most importantly, it is a step towards reducing maternal and child mortality rates and achieving good health and well-being for all,” she said.
Warri South Local Government Chairman, Comrade Isaac Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, also hailed the facility as a “live demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda in Warri,” noting that it will significantly reduce the area’s maternal and child mortality burden.
Receiving the facility on behalf of FMC Asaba, Acting Medical Director, Dr. Ekeneam Omo, pledged to ensure every patient is treated with dignity, empathy, and excellence. He disclosed that the hospital is fully equipped with emergency, paediatric, neonatal, female, and labour wards, an intensive care unit, a modern theatre, laboratory, consulting rooms, staff accommodation, and a reliable alternative power supply system.
While commending the Federal Government for the investment, he appealed for additional land and medical equipment, including digital X-ray and CT scan machines, to further expand the hospital’s services.
The commissioning marks a significant milestone in advancing equitable healthcare access in Delta State, particularly for women and children, and signals a strong commitment to strengthening the nation’s healthcare infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
