In a bold demonstration of its commitment to education and community development, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Thursday, July 17, 2025, commissioned the newly renovated Christ Assembly Nursery and Primary School in Ajegunle, Lagos. The project, executed under the Customs’ CSR initiative—“Customs Cares”—was spearheaded by the Tincan Island Port Command and marks a significant milestone in efforts to support underserved communities.
The commissioning ceremony was led by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, accompanied by senior Customs officials and key stakeholders, including His Royal Highness Oba Muhammed Maruf, the Olumakinwa of Apapa Kingdom; Mayor of Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA, Fatai Ayeola; and Lagos State Commissioner for Basic Education, Jamiu Ali-Balogun.

Speaking at the event, CGC Adeniyi described the initiative as “a symbol of renewed hope and a deliberate investment in Nigeria’s future.” He highlighted the Customs’ nationwide goal of impacting 50,000 schoolchildren in 2025 by distributing essential educational supplies such as uniforms, shoes, raincoats, and school bags. So far, 10,000 students have benefited, including 3,000 in Lagos—with 2,000 reached on this occasion alone.
“Our intervention is not just about infrastructure—it is about inspiring children to dream big and giving them the tools to succeed,” the CGC noted. He further outlined five additional focus areas of the “Customs Cares” initiative: healthcare, creative industry support, access to potable water, information technology, and ICT development—aligning with broader national development goals.
In his welcome remarks, Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Charles Orbih, Zonal Coordinator for Zone A, underscored the role of Customs in leading by example. “Our position as the foremost zone places on us the responsibility to pioneer community engagement efforts that others can emulate.”

Comptroller Patience Ibrahim, who oversees the CSR Unit, reaffirmed the NCS’s dedication to deepening ties with the communities it serves, while Comptroller Frank Onyeka, Host Area Controller, acknowledged the valuable contributions of partners and stakeholders.
Gratitude echoed from the school’s Headmistress, Esther Ogunfuyi, who praised the Customs Service for its generosity. “Your support reflects belief in our pupils’ potential and a desire to make a lasting difference in their lives,” she said.
The event featured vibrant cultural performances by the pupils and culminated in the formal presentation of educational materials and the unveiling of the renovated school facilities—leaving a memorable impact on the Ajegunle community
