In a significant show of support for the Nasarawa State Government’s healthcare agenda, the Zumunta Association, USA Incorporated—a diaspora-based group affiliated with the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission—has provided free medical services to over 5,000 residents across urban and rural communities.
The three-day outreach, which took place at Gudi General Hospital in Akwanga Local Government Area, featured surgeries, chronic illness treatment, health education, diagnostics, counselling, and free medication.
Speaking at the close of the programme, National President of the association, Sunday Bitrus, explained that the initiative was part of activities leading up to their 2025 annual national convention in Lafia. “We didn’t anticipate the level of impact, but we’re grateful to have touched nearly 5,000 lives,” he stated.
He also reaffirmed the association’s commitment to the well-being of Nasarawa’s residents and announced that more initiatives aimed at improving healthcare and socio-economic development would follow.
Acting Governor of the state, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, lauded the organisation’s efforts and expressed the government’s readiness to partner with Zumunta Association to deliver healthcare solutions across all 13 local government areas. He further acknowledged the group’s recent ICT empowerment programme, which trained over 1,000 youths in digital skills.
