Lagos based Eja-Ice Nigeria Limited has launched solar powered refrigeration and cold chain solutions designed to cut food losses, improve sustainability, and strengthen Nigeria’s food security.
Speaking at the firm’s maiden product showcase in Lagos, Chief Executive Officer Yusuf Bilesanmi said the innovation represents a transformative step for the country’s cold chain sector.
“We are thrilled to present solutions that not only meet today’s market needs but also pave the way for a sustainable future,” Bilesanmi said.
He noted that Nigeria loses about ₦3.5 trillion annually nearly 40 per cent of total food production due to poor storage infrastructure, with smallholder farmers losing as much as 35 per cent of their income from post-harvest spoilage.
The company explained that its solar-powered technology delivers reliable, energy-efficient refrigeration that preserves food longer, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and safeguards temperature-sensitive products such as food and medicine.
“With our solar cold chain technology, we’re changing how food is preserved in Nigeria—saving money, reducing hunger, and protecting the environment,” Bilesanmi added.
At the event, visitors explored the firm’s innovations in cold storage and transportation, alongside partnerships with major brands committed to reducing food waste nationwide.
Eja-Ice said its solutions will play a vital role in empowering farmers, lowering losses, and advancing food sustainability in Nigeria.
