PepsiCo and DP World have strengthened their partnership with WaterAid to expand access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in underserved communities in Lagos State.
The new climate-resilient WASH programme will directly benefit over 6,500 residents of Ikorodu North and Ojodu Local Council Development Areas. Through solar-powered water systems, improved sanitation facilities, and hygiene education in schools and community groups, the initiative is designed to improve health, reduce waterborne diseases, and enhance quality of life.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, described the collaboration as “a powerful example of global expertise meeting local opportunity.” She noted that the project would not only uplift communities but also strengthen supply chains, create jobs, and reinforce Lagos as Africa’s commercial hub.
Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Finance Minister, Wale Edun, commended the initiative, stressing that it reflects Nigeria’s priorities in food security, manufacturing, and logistics. “With the right environment, global businesses can thrive here while empowering communities and placing greater purchasing power in the hands of our people,” he said.
For DP World, Nigeria remains a strategic market. Its CEO and MD, Sub-Saharan Africa, Mohammed Akoojee, noted that the partnership combines “commercial capability with social purpose,” bringing long-term benefits by empowering women, supporting small enterprises, and embedding resilience in local communities.
PepsiCo’s Ahmed El-Sheikh, President for Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan, Ethiopia, and Nigeria Foods, emphasized that the company’s investment in Nigeria “goes beyond production. It is about building an inclusive supply network that responds to the needs of the people.”
By expanding access to clean water and sanitation, the initiative not only supports healthier communities but also ensures economic participation and resilience for Lagos residents.
