In a determined effort to strengthen agricultural productivity and improve food security, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has facilitated the distribution of 12,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers across the Borno South Senatorial District.
The intervention, implemented through the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), targets farmers in all nine Local Government Areas of the district—many of whom rely heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods. The official flag-off ceremony was held in Bayo LGA, where the senator was represented by the former Deputy Governor of Borno State.
Describing the initiative as both timely and strategic, Senator Ndume emphasized the urgency of supporting farmers as the farming season peaks.
“I am a farmer myself and understand the challenges our people face. This initiative ensures our hardworking farmers are not sidelined due to lack of access to fertiliser,” he said.
Ndume noted that this effort builds on previous agricultural interventions, including the Ndume Sustainable Farming Initiative led by his wife. He added that future agricultural plans would include a focus on irrigation farming to support year-round food production in the region.
“Agriculture remains at the heart of my legislative and development agenda,” he reaffirmed.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Bayo Local Government, represented by the Bayo APC Chairman, commended the senator’s continuous grassroots engagement.
“At a time when farmers are struggling with rising input costs, Senator Ndume’s intervention is a huge relief,” he said, noting the growing trust and support from the community.
To ensure fair and transparent distribution, Adamu Timta, Chairman of the Fertiliser Distribution Committee, instructed ward coordinators to deliver the inputs to genuine farmers across all communities. A Monitoring Committee led by Buba Tunga has been deployed across the LGAs to provide independent oversight and report back on the process.
This latest move by Senator Ndume not only tackles immediate input shortages but also highlights his long-term commitment to agriculture as a pillar of economic development in Borno South. As preparations begin for the next phase of support, particularly for irrigation-focused farmers, the region can expect sustained momentum in agricultural growth and rural empowerment.
