
Seplat Energy PLC, in collaboration with NEPL, has reaffirmed its commitment to educational development by successfully graduating 342 teachers and Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) under the Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP). The graduation ceremony, held in Benin City, Edo State, marked another milestone in the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in the education sector.
Speaking at the event, Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs and Social Performance at Seplat Energy, described teachers as the backbone of quality education. She revealed that 327 teachers and 15 CIEs completed the 2025 training, adding to the 1,334 educators trained across Seplat’s host states.
Afe emphasized that the STEP initiative is designed to empower teachers, enhance their classroom effectiveness, and maximize students’ learning potential. She also highlighted the Seplat STEP App, an innovative online learning platform with over 10,000 resources, providing continuous professional development opportunities for teachers.

Paddy Iyamu, Edo State Commissioner for Education, commended NEPL and Seplat Energy for their dedication to educational excellence. Represented by Ero Ugiagbe, Director of Examinations, he urged graduates to become torchbearers of educational transformation.
Similarly, Rose Ezewu, Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, represented by Justina Shaka, Director of Schools, noted that over 600 teachers in Delta State have benefitted from the STEP initiative since its inception in 2020. She praised the program’s transformative impact on STEM education, helping bridge critical knowledge gaps.
