Access Bank Plc is at the forefront of Africa’s transition to clean energy, leveraging cutting-edge technology and sustainable finance to drive climate action. As the Gold Sponsor of the Nigeria Climate Change Forum (NCCF) in Abuja, the bank reaffirmed its leadership in advancing the continent’s net-zero ambitions by uniting policymakers, investors, and sustainability experts to accelerate Africa’s green transition.
The forum served as a strategic platform for key stakeholders to discuss and implement impactful solutions for Africa’s sustainable development. Access Bank has been instrumental in financing the continent’s low-carbon transition through groundbreaking initiatives, including issuing Africa’s first corporate-certified green bond, mobilizing climate finance, and investing in renewable energy projects.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Gregory Jobome, Executive Director of Risk Management at Access Bank, underscored Africa’s vulnerability to climate change, particularly as global temperatures edge closer to the 1.5°C threshold.
“Africa is at a critical juncture where innovation and technology are driving climate solutions. However, to fully maximize these opportunities, we must scale up investments and create pathways for our growing youth population to thrive in the green economy,” Jobome stated.
Through initiatives like the Sustainable Finance Accelerator Program, Access Bank is mobilizing capital and fostering strategic partnerships to strengthen Africa’s green transition.
Highlighting the pivotal role of women in climate resilience, Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, called for stronger public-private partnerships to empower women-led climate initiatives. She emphasized that women are disproportionately affected by climate change and must be key players in driving Africa’s sustainability agenda.
As part of its long-term strategy, Access Bank continues to integrate sustainability into its core operations. Its leadership in climate finance reflects a steadfast commitment to creating a resilient and prosperous Africa—one that prioritizes environmental sustainability for future generations.
