Bolt, a leading ride-hailing platform, has taken a new step toward safer urban mobility in Nigeria by hosting its inaugural Passenger Safety Meet & Greet in Lagos — the first event of its kind globally for the company.
The forum brought together passengers, drivers, regulators, Bolt Business clients, media, lifestyle influencers, and Bolt representatives for open, unscripted conversations on safety and trust in the country’s growing ride-hailing industry.
Participants discussed issues such as data privacy, rider verification, fare disputes, and even air-conditioning etiquette in the Economy category. Concerns over drivers taking screenshots of personal data led to calls for privacy protections on par with banking security standards.
Engr. Adebayo Olusoji, Director of Public Transport Commuter Services, delivered the keynote, stressing the importance of collaboration among operators, regulators, and users, backed by continuous education, strong policies, and community engagement.
Bolt also highlighted its existing safety tools — trip sharing, audio trip recording, rider and driver verification, an emergency assist button, in-trip insurance, and 24/7 customer support — urging drivers and passengers to use them actively.
Weyinmi Aghadiuno, Head of Regulatory and Policy at Bolt, said the initiative put people at the centre of safety conversations: “This isn’t just about enforcing rules; it’s about co-creating solutions that reflect the real experiences of riders and drivers. When we listen, learn, and act together, we can build a more respectful and secure ride-hailing experience for all.”
A lively role-play session allowed passengers and drivers to act out common points of friction — from payment disagreements to service expectations — sparking discussions on empathy, respect, and better communication.
The event kicks off Bolt’s nationwide engagement strategy to create a people-first, inclusive, and responsive ride-hailing ecosystem across Nigeria.
