The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has deepened its collaboration with universities and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to promote governance education and groom the next generation of professionals in the field.
Speaking during the ICSAN 100 Days in Office Members’ Briefing and Press Parley held in Lagos, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Uto Ukpanah, said the initiative reflects the Institute’s renewed commitment to advancing governance education, professional awareness, and leadership development among young Nigerians.
Ukpanah highlighted some of the milestones achieved within her first 100 days in office, noting that ICSAN recently signed a partnership agreement with Lagos State University (LASU) to strengthen governance training and academic linkages. Discussions are also underway with the University of Lagos, Covenant University, and the University of Ilorin to expand the Institute’s footprint and promote professional excellence across tertiary institutions.
According to Ukpanah, the collaboration with the NYSC will serve as a platform for corps members to gain practical exposure to governance principles and ethics key components of ICSAN’s mission to nurture a new generation of governance leaders.
She also provided updates on the Institute’s major projects, including the construction of its new national secretariat building, which is expected to be completed ahead of ICSAN’s 60th anniversary celebration in 2026. The first floor decking of the structure has already been completed.
In addition, Ukpanah revealed that significant progress has been made on the Chartered Governance Institute of Nigeria Bill, which seeks to expand the professional identity of members beyond traditional secretarial practice and further position the Institute as a leading authority in governance and administration.
Speaking at the briefing, the Vice President of ICSAN, Francis Olawale, commended the leadership’s direction and commitment, noting that the progress achieved within a short period demonstrates a shared vision to strengthen ICSAN’s influence across key sectors of the economy.
Ukpanah expressed appreciation to members, corporate partners, and the media for their continued support, attributing the Institute’s achievements to teamwork, shared purpose, and collective dedication within the ICSAN community. She reaffirmed the Institute’s resolve to deepen governance advocacy, enhance member welfare, and build a stronger professional identity aligned with Nigeria’s development priorities.
