The Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa (COFAAA) has praised Propcom, for its continued efforts in enhancing Nigeria’s National Cocoa Management Committee (NCMC) and promoting sustainable cocoa production across the country.
COFAAA’s Global President, Comrade Adeola Adegoke, highlighted Propcom+’s vital role in helping African cocoa institutions adopt global best practices that improve farmers’ livelihoods and strengthen the region’s competitiveness in the international cocoa market.
As part of its support, Propcom+ is facilitating a study tour for Nigeria’s NCMC to Côte d’Ivoire the world’s largest cocoa producer to deepen learning and strengthen Nigeria’s cocoa governance framework.
According to Adegoke, the visit will allow the Nigerian delegation to examine Côte d’Ivoire’s success in cocoa governance, sustainability, value chain development, and its approach to domesticating the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). During the tour, the team is engaging with key institutions, including the Conseil du Café Cacao, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, local chocolate manufacturers, and leading cocoa cooperatives.
Adegoke described the collaboration as a major step toward repositioning Nigeria as a competitive force in the global cocoa market.
“This study tour will strengthen the operational capacity of the NCMC and inspire practical strategies for sustainable growth within Nigeria’s cocoa sector,” he said.
He noted that Côte d’Ivoire accounts for 45% of global cocoa production forming a significant share of Africa’s 70% contribution. Nigeria’s renewed commitment to adopting proven models from Côte d’Ivoire is expected to help increase Africa’s production capacity to 80% within the next five years, improving economic stability across the continent and boosting farmers’ livelihoods.
The Nigerian delegation comprised Comrade Adeola Adegoke; Mr. Ajayi Olutobaba, National Cocoa Desk Officer and NCMC Secretary; Mr. Benedict Etegbe of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council; Mr. Omolakin Anthony; and other key stakeholders.
