In commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD), CSR Reporters has decided to celebrate the Nigerian women by advocating for their gender equality in the country.
Every March 8th, Nigerian women join the rest of the world to celebrate the International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day is a day to promote a gender-equal world that is free from prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination, and one that is diverse, inclusive, and equitable.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.”
This theme is aligned with the priority theme for the upcoming 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67), “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”.
The United Nations Observance of IWD recognizes and celebrates the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education. IWD 2023 will explore the impact of the digital gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities. The event will also spotlight the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in digital spaces and addressing online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.
CSR Reporters on the other hand have called for more involvement of women in technology. They feel bringing women and other marginalized groups into technology results in more creative solutions and has greater potential for innovations that meet women’s needs and promote gender equality.
Today, women are embracing equity and creating a positive change in society. Despite the many challenges they have faced, women have become powerful forces of change in the world and are working hard to move towards a more equitable future.
From the workplace to the political arena, women are standing up and pushing for equal rights and opportunities.
However, as the world is evolving to become more digital, CSR Reporters believe that we can keep up the pace and unleash the potential of women and girls to become active agents of change in this transformation. Digital technologies need to be used to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and gender equality.
We should also know that women are the bedrock and strength of every nation and that women should be encouraged to be who they should be in building families and nations
