Lagos harps on collaboration for improve quality education
Lagos State Government has stressed the need for stakeholders’ collaboration in the educational sector to enhance the quality of education in the state.
The state government harped on this while unveiling a block of classrooms, furniture, and other infrastructure at the Amuwo Odofin Junior High School, Mile 2 school complex.
The projects unveiled, was initiated and funded by Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited as part of it Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Speaking at the inauguration and handover ceremony, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, appealed to the principals, teachers, and students to maintain and judiciously utilise the facilities.
He promised that his ministry would ensure a clean and safe environment, emphasising the importance of teachers’ dedication to their work and students’ timely engagement.
Alli-Balogun called on other private companies to partner with the government in various sectors such as health, education among others. He also cautioned the principal and teachers against damaging the facility, urging them to maintain it.

“Education is about scaling up to global standards and enhancing teaching and learning for teachers and students,” he stated, pledging that the facilities would be adequately maintained, and additional teachers provided to enhance teaching and learning.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. It is expected of you to take these facilities very seriously. Use them judiciously to better your understanding of what your teachers are teaching, especially for the students, so that government and private sector investments in education will not be in vain,” he emphasised.
Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Mr Valentine Buraimoh, praised the initiative, saying education was the legacy any parent could give to their children. He commended PTML, stating that the government could accomplish everything alone due to the numerous tasks at hand.
The managing director, PTML, Ascanio Russo said the company ‘is deeply committed to social responsibility, with a particular focus on education and environmental stewardship,’ as well as a sign of ‘our dedication to creating a positive impact on both the community and the environment.’
He commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support in making the project a reality.
Russo further mentioned projects done by the company at government schools in Mile 2 to include construction of 502 meters long and 7 meters wide interlocked access road within the mile 2 school’s complex in 2021, construction of a standard drainage system within the school complex, renovation of some classroom blocks and rehabilitation of blown off roofs of some classroom blocks at the school complex, donation of computers and printers to all the six schools at Mile 2 community, installation of a new 50 KVA transformer that supply power to Amuwo Odofin Senior and Junior Schools. 2022, among others.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Abayomi Abolaji, explained that the provision of infrastructure was never solely the responsibility of the government but requires partnerships with the private sector.
