The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has announced a call for applications for its Women Agripreneurs Intellectual Property (IP) Mentorship Scheme, aimed at strengthening women-led agribusinesses in Nigeria through structured IP capacity building and business support.
The programme is designed to help women entrepreneurs in agriculture better understand how intellectual property can be used to protect innovations, strengthen branding, and improve the commercial value of their agribusiness ventures.
Programme Focus
Selected participants will receive mentorship and technical guidance covering:
- Intellectual property fundamentals and protection strategies
- Branding, trademarks, and product differentiation
- Innovation development and commercialization
- Business growth and market positioning in agriculture value chains
- Access to expert mentorship and peer learning opportunities
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are expected to:
- Be women-led agribusiness owners or founders operating in Nigeria
- Be actively involved in agricultural production, processing, or agro-related services
- Demonstrate innovative or scalable business ideas within the sector
- Show willingness to learn and apply intellectual property tools to business growth
- Be available to participate fully in the mentorship programme
The initiative prioritises inclusion and equal access for women across different regions and segments of the agricultural value chain, particularly those with limited exposure to formal intellectual property systems.
Development Objective
WIPO says the scheme aligns with its broader goal of promoting innovation-driven development by equipping women entrepreneurs with practical tools to protect their ideas, strengthen competitiveness, and improve long-term business sustainability.
The programme also aims to close knowledge gaps around intellectual property in agriculture, while supporting women-led enterprises to become more structured, resilient, and investment-ready.
