Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved a landmark disbursement of ₦945.25 million for the 2024/2025 scholarship scheme, giving fresh hope to thousands of students across Nigeria.
Of this, ₦800 million has already been released to 19,546 verified beneficiaries studying in 154 tertiary institutions nationwide. The National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS) confirmed that an additional ₦145.25 million will soon be cleared to complete the funding cycle.
Speaking at a press briefing, NUBASS President, Bello Ibrahim, described the move as “historic in both scale and impact,” noting that the governor’s intervention has restored trust in a process that was once plagued by delays and irregularities.
In a further push for global competitiveness, Governor Mohammed has also sponsored 100 Bauchi indigenes for advanced studies in China, with the first batch already in transit. The initiative aims to equip youths with world-class skills in science, technology, and innovation.
On student safety, NUBASS revealed that discussions with the Bauchi State Police Command had secured approval for a new police station near Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, alongside stepped-up patrols to address campus security concerns.
The student body also highlighted other recent achievements, including the renovation of the long-abandoned NUBASS Secretariat, free JAMB registration support for indigent students, a state-wide orientation programme, and the hosting of the maiden EDUTECH Conference in Bauchi.
Ibrahim praised Governor Mohammed’s “visionary investment in human capital” and assured that the union would continue to advocate for student welfare while collaborating with stakeholders to create safer, more supportive learning environments.
