The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched its 2025 National Food Intervention Project, a ₦16 billion initiative aimed at tackling food insecurity in Nigeria. This annual program will distribute one million 10kg bags of rice to vulnerable Nigerians across all 774 local government areas (LGAs), reinforcing ADF’s commitment to humanitarian aid, poverty alleviation, and social impact.
A Lifeline Amid Economic Hardship
Announced in Kano on March 13, 2025, the initiative was unveiled by Aliko Dangote, represented by his daughter, Marya Aliko-Dangote. According to him, this intervention underscores ADF’s core values of compassion and shared responsibility, especially during the current economic downturn.
“This initiative aligns with our mission to alleviate hunger and support the most vulnerable Nigerians. We are committed to ensuring these food supplies reach those in dire need,” Dangote stated.
ADF is collaborating with state governments to ensure transparent and efficient distribution. Beyond food relief, the foundation is actively working on clean water access, healthcare improvements, quality education, and economic empowerment initiatives at the grassroots level.

Call for Public-Private Partnership
Dangote urged other corporate organizations and industrialists to support government efforts in combating food insecurity, emphasizing that public-private partnerships (PPPs) are crucial in fighting hunger and poverty in Nigeria.
Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State, represented by his Deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo, commended Dangote’s philanthropic efforts, stating that the intervention is timely, especially during Ramadan. The Kano State government has set up a committee with security agencies to ensure fair and transparent distribution.
ADF’s Commitment to Poverty Alleviation
ADF’s Managing Director, Zouera Youssoufou, reiterated the foundation’s long-term pledge to supporting governments in their fight against poverty and hunger.
Additionally, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board in Kano, praised ADF’s generosity, assuring that Hisbah will actively oversee the distribution process.
As Nigeria faces economic challenges, initiatives like this provide critical relief to vulnerable populations, reaffirming Aliko Dangote’s legacy as one of Africa’s leading philanthropists.
