In a strategic move to enhance corporate social responsibility (CSR) and drive sustainable national development, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a dedicated CSR Unit. This initiative underscores the NCS’s commitment to societal welfare beyond its primary roles of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
Customs-Cares Initiative: Transforming Communities Through CSR
The newly established CSR Unit will oversee programs under the “Customs-Cares” initiative, focusing on national development priorities and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The key areas of intervention include:
Educational Support: Renovating schools and improving learning environments.
Healthcare Access: Deploying mobile health clinics to underserved areas.
Humanitarian Aid: Providing food and medical relief to vulnerable communities.
Agricultural Development: Supporting farmers and enhancing food security.
Youth Empowerment: Establishing skills acquisition programs for job creation.
Community Engagement: Strengthening public trust through collaborative initiatives.
Recognizing the power of collaboration, the NCS is forging strategic partnerships with government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), private-sector stakeholders, and local communities. These collaborations aim to amplify the impact of CSR projects, ensuring that initiatives reach those most in need.

Under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS is integrating corporate social responsibility into its core operations. This aligns with the Presidential Priority Areas and complements President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, positioning the Service as a socially responsible institution dedicated to improving lives across Nigeria.
Encouraging Public and Stakeholder Participation
The NCS invites officers, stakeholders, and the general public to actively support the Customs-Cares initiative. By fostering community engagement and staff participation, the Service aims to expand its outreach and create long-term, sustainable solutions that uplift Nigerian communities.
As the initiative unfolds, the Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to strengthening partnerships and maximizing outreach to ensure that its CSR efforts lead to tangible, measurable impact in the lives of Nigerians.
