GREENPLINTH AFRICA LIMITED in collaboration with the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) and the Office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is pleased to present The Green Conference and 2026 Projects Implementation Retreat scheduled to hold from 3rd to 5th March 2026 at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel, Ikeja.
The Conference, themed “Decarbonising Africa: From Policy Commitment to Scalable Implementation,” will convene senior government officials, regulators, sub-national leaders, private-sector actors, investors, development partners, and the media to advance practical, bankable pathways for climate action, decarbonisation, energy transition, climatefinance mobilisation, and inclusive green economic growth across Africa.
Recall at the recent Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to climate action, green industrialisation, and the large-scale mobilisation of climate finance. He further underscored the critical role of sub-national governments as drivers of Nigeria’s energy transition – particularly across clean energy, sustainable transport, nature-based solutions, and carbon markets – as engines for jobs creation, investment attraction, and economic diversification
The Green Conference offers sub-nationals and private sector players the opportunity to leverage climate finance, decarbonisation solutions, and carbon markets to deepen its green growth agenda and attract new investment.
The Conference provides a strategic platform for sub-national governments and the private sector to translate policy ambition into bankable projects, unlock carbon and climate finance, attract private investment, and accelerate inclusive green growth at the state and community levels.
The Green ICONS Award is a national climate action and environmental honour recognizing visionary individuals, organisations and Institutions in Nigeria that exemplify leadership, commitment, dedication and advocate action on sustainable development, climate change and environmental protection at all times. Unwavering in diverting our society from a path that has proven to be economically viable BUT environmentally suicidal.
The environment is life! According to the United Nations, the environment plays a crucial role in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals which were adopted in 2015.
About half of the Sustainable Development Goals are directly environmental in focus or address the sustainability of natural resources: poverty, health, food and agriculture, water and sanitation, human settlements, energy, climate change, sustainable consumption and production, oceans, and terrestrial ecosystems.
The Green ICONS Award seeks to build on this by highlighting individuals, organizations and institutions in Nigeria who show leadership and vision in delivering on the environmental dimension of the sustainable development agenda.
The award is expected to play an additional role in raising awareness about key national environmental issues and climate challenges; inspiring and motivating individuals, institutions, organisations and businesses to take positive steps towards sustainability, climate action and environmental excellence in their homes, schools, communities and workplaces.
The 2026 edition will recognize and honour distinguished visionary individuals, organisations and institutions in Nigeria.
Also note that the Green ICONS Award comes with an elite profile publication in GREENPLINTH PUBLICATIONS – a special portfolio of outstanding influence, power, commitment and dedication to our climate and the environment.
This Special Project showcases profiles of the 2026 Green ICONS, who have distinguished themselves in the field of environmental protection, climate action and sustainable development. Though there are, indeed, hundreds of thousands whose contributions qualify to be showcased in this kind of project, we are however constrained by selection processes to limit ourselves to a selected few. But the argument that informed their nomination and selection were sound, noble and very objective. These are leaders and stakeholders who have noiselessly distinguished themselves in the crucial areas of environmental protection, climate action and sustainable development. The 2026 Green ICONS would be formally unveiled at a special event in Lagos on the 3rd of March 2026, during The Green Conference and 2026 Projects Implementation Retreat, by Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, SENATOR OLUREMI TINUBU, CON. While Selection Certificates, Special Plaques and Icon Medals would be presented to these distinguished Nigerians, organisations and institutions by the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, SENATOR KASHIM SHETTIMA, GCON and the Director General, National Council on Climate Change, MRS. TENIOYE MAJEKODUNMI.
