In a strategic move to bolster food security and promote youth and women participation in agriculture, 87 farmers in Lagos State have received a total of N11.4 million in agricultural grants under the Renewed Hope Initiative 2025 Agricultural Support Programme (RHI-ASP).
The beneficiaries span across various agricultural sectors including fisheries, vegetable farming, garri processing, poultry, beekeeping, and zobo production.
Of the recipients, 27 youth and women farmers received N200,000 each along with farming inputs, while 60 others, drawn from Lagos’ senatorial districts under the “Every Home A Garden 2.0” program, received N100,000 each.
At the official launch held at Lagos House, Ikeja, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, praised the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for backing the initiative with a N60 million grant.
The RHI-ASP features four core components:
- Women Agricultural Support Programme
- Youth Agricultural Support Programme
- Every Home A Garden
- Young Farmers Club
As part of the youth-focused initiative, 120 students from 24 public schools will participate in agriculture-based training and activities.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of agriculture in building sustainable livelihoods, especially for women and youth, saying:
“We will build a Lagos where no one goes to bed hungry, a Lagos where our women and youth are financially independent. Agriculture is not just our heritage—it’s our future.”
Also speaking, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, wife of the Deputy Governor, described the initiative as a catalyst for growing household food production, urging the beneficiaries to “plant the seed with care.”
Experts like Femi Ojelade and Omolara Oguntuyi from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture stressed the need for youth to embrace agriculture, with a special emphasis on organic farming for healthier and more sustainable practices.
