The Rotary Club of Maryland, District 9111, has announced plans to execute projects worth ₦108 million during the 2025/2026 Rotary year, with a focus on education, healthcare, water, sanitation, and environmental sustainability.
The announcement was made at the club’s investiture and fundraising ceremony, where Bidemi Maruf Bello was installed as its 24th president.
Bello revealed that the club has already commenced impactful projects since the start of the Rotary year on July 1. These include the renovation of the Maternity Health Centre at Wassimi and the distribution of pregnancy kits. The club also commissioned a ₦52m solar-powered water purification system for a rural community.
Highlighting the year’s flagship project, Bello disclosed plans for an ₦18m full-scale renovation of two science laboratories at Wassimi Comprehensive Secondary School.
“The modernised facilities will serve as a model for other schools in the Maryland area. Groundbreaking is scheduled soon, with completion expected before the end of the month,” he said.
Beyond these, the club will roll out additional interventions in maternal and child health, basic education, sanitation, and environmental care over the coming months.
Bello also emphasised teamwork and growth as key drivers of the new Rotary year:
“This is the year of the united team. We are driven by collective effort, shared passion, and strong bonds—and that’s how we will make a difference in our communities.”
With August marked as Membership Development Month in the Rotary Calendar, Bello added that the club is working to increase its membership from 107 to 120 by the end of the year, alongside commissioning new Rotary clubs.
