Sterling Bank
Sterling Bank Limited has marked a groundbreaking milestone as it celebrates the first anniversary of SeaBaas, Africa’s first homegrown core banking system, which has transformed how millions of Nigerians access and experience banking.
In just one year of operation, the platform has processed more than 2 billion transactions, cut processing times by 60%, and boosted customer adoption by 66%, becoming a symbol of what African ingenuity can achieve. Customers across Sterling’s digital channels from OneBank to Specta have enjoyed uninterrupted service, with SeaBaas recording zero downtime throughout its first 365 days.
For Sterling Bank’s Chief Executive, Abubakar Suleiman, the system is more than a banking solution; it is proof of what is possible when Africans dare to build boldly. “SeaBaas shows that we can solve complex problems locally and scale solutions globally. It is a collective victory for our people, our partners, and our customers,” he said.
Developed by Sterling Bank engineers in collaboration with Peerless Software, KPMG, Bazara Technologies, Revent Technologies, and AppQuest Solutions, SeaBaas stands as a beacon of courage and creativity. Beyond its efficiency gains, the platform has also delivered significant cost savings, created opportunities for reinvestment, and accelerated financial inclusion, making banking more accessible to Nigerians in urban and rural communities alike.
As Sterling looks ahead, it plans to expand SeaBaas’ capabilities to solve bigger challenges, reimagine financial systems, and showcase the potential of African-built technology on the world stage.
For many, SeaBaas is not just a banking innovation but a source of pride a reminder that Africa can build, lead, and inspire the world.
