The Jigawa State Government has flagged off a new empowerment initiative targeting 2,000 beneficiaries across the state, with a special focus on youths, women, and people with disabilities.
The programme, organised in partnership with 9JaFoodFiesta and the Office of the First Lady, offers free training in information and communication technology, culinary arts, fashion design, and agriculture, particularly in fishery and poultry farming. Beneficiaries will also receive entrepreneurial skills training to help them establish and sustain small businesses.
According to officials, the initiative was designed to eliminate financial barriers and ensure that vulnerable groups have equal access to economic opportunities. By providing hands-on training at no cost, the government aims to promote self-reliance and nurture a new generation of entrepreneurs capable of driving grassroots economic growth.
In recent years, Jigawa has rolled out several empowerment programmes to reduce poverty and unemployment. In 2024 alone, over 12,000 rural women received financial support through the J-CARES Women Economic Empowerment Programme, while people with disabilities and vulnerable farmers were assisted with targeted funding and agricultural inputs.
With this new scheme, the state government reaffirms its commitment to human capital development and strengthening small businesses as engines of inclusive growth.
