Reaktor Energy Drink, produced by Planet Bottling Company, has unveiled a new short film and documentary titled Push & Start, celebrating the resilience, determination, and unyielding spirit of Nigerians. The productions were showcased at an exclusive press screening in Lagos on Monday.
Franklyn Eluagu, Marketing Communications Manager at Planet Bottling Company, explained that the films reflect Reaktor’s mission to honour the nation’s relentless drive. “For us, it was a way to show the hustling spirit of Nigerians—the spirit that doesn’t give up,” he said.
Eluagu emphasized that Reaktor seeks to be “a partner in that hustling spirit,” noting that the productions embody the brand’s slogan, “push your limits.” Both the short film and documentary spotlight women tricycle drivers, highlighting that anyone, regardless of age, gender, or stage in life, can seize each day and push forward. Eluagu also shared that this project is just the beginning, with plans to explore other stories in the future.
Naji Awada, Marketing Director at Planet Bottling Company, added that the films aim to inspire Nigerians navigating economic challenges. We all need that motivation. We need examples to see that we can push ourselves, he said, emphasizing the company’s responsibility to support its consumers.
The short film Push & Start follows 25-year-old tricycle driver Folake, who dreams of studying Mechanical Engineering abroad. When a street race presents a life changing opportunity, she takes a leap to “rewrite her story.” Director Ashimedua Odiachi explained that the film was designed to highlight hardworking young Nigerians in unique spaces rarely seen in Nollywood. Shooting outdoors, especially during street races, posed major challenges for the production team. Lead actor Ebunoluwa Oluwarinu described Folake as “a reflection of every Nigerian who’s determined and willing to go the extra mile,” noting that preparing for the role involved learning to drive and maintain a tricycle.
Meanwhile, the documentary Push & Start: The Real Hustle follows three Lagos women Jecinta Ohizu, Beatrice Odene, and Shade Erujeje who balance driving tricycles with caring for their families. Director Zorah Callistus shared that finding authentic subjects was the toughest part, as she wanted real people rather than actors. Filming in crowded Ikotun required careful management to capture the women’s routines organically. Producer Bemigho Nadia added that the brand’s tagline inspired the documentary: “We wanted to tell a story that reflects the resilient Nigerian spirit.” She also noted that many Lagos creatives juggle multiple jobs to make ends meet, mirroring the lives of the women featured.
Reaktor emphasized that Push & Start underscores its commitment to everyday Nigerians students, traders, workers, and hustlers who strive for a better future. The project serves as a platform to celebrate those “starting their engines toward a brighter tomorrow.”
Planet Bottling Company, which produces Reaktor in Ogun State, reaffirmed its dedication to telling stories that resonate with consumers while continuing to deliver quality beverages across Nigeria.
