The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, has convened a joint border security engagement as part of efforts to strengthen regional security and facilitate seamless cross-border trade.
According to a statement shared on its official social media platform, the high-level stakeholders’ meeting was held last week in Idiroko and brought together heads of sister security agencies from Nigeria and the Republic of Benin, alongside other key stakeholders involved in border management.
Speaking at the engagement, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Oladapo Afeni, a Deputy Comptroller of Customs, said his mandate as Chairman of the Joint Security Forum places priority on border security as a critical driver of effective trade facilitation and revenue generation.
Afeni explained that the forum was convened to reassess the security situation along the border, address challenges hindering the smooth flow of trade, and strengthen regional security cooperation.
He added that the participation of Beninese security officials highlighted the importance of bilateral collaboration in tackling shared border challenges and promoting economic stability across the region.
