Coscharis Motors has officially reopened its Training Academy for new admissions into its one-year automobile technical engineering program. Hosted at the CG Eko, Ikeja outlet, this initiative is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) investment, designed to equip aspiring automotive technicians with essential skills—completely free of charge.
Addressing the Industry Skills Gap and Importance of the Training Academy
According to Mr. Cosmas Junior Maduka, Executive Director, Aftersales & Special Duties at Coscharis Group, the academy aims to bridge the skills gap in the automotive sector. With the rapid growth of the industry, there is an increasing demand for professional technicians. The program is tailored to develop local talent, reducing the reliance on expatriates and minimizing foreign capital flight.
A Legacy of Skill Development
Originally launched in 2013 as a public-private partnership with the Lagos State Government, the Coscharis Academy has trained and graduated over 100 professionals, both male and female. Many of these graduates have secured employment with Coscharis, other automotive firms, or ventured into self-employment.
“Coscharis has always been guided by its corporate vision: ‘To build an institution that is timeless in its relevance.’ We believe in investing in local human capital, supporting government workforce initiatives, and empowering financially disadvantaged yet employable individuals. This not only benefits individuals but also strengthens Nigeria’s overall economy,” stated Mr. Cosmas Junior Maduka.
New Admissions and Training Academy Structure
For the latest training cycle, 25 candidates have been selected to undergo intensive training, which includes three months of theoretical coursework and nine months of hands-on practical experience. The training is divided into four quarters, culminating in an industrial placement at the Coscharis Head Office in Awoyaya, Lagos. Upon program completion in October 2025, the top five performers will receive automatic employment at Coscharis Motors—a tradition upheld since the academy’s inception.
Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Dr. Omowunmi Wale-Okusi, Group Head of Human Resources & Administration at Coscharis Group, reaffirmed the academy’s dedication to diversity and equal opportunity.
“Admission and training are entirely free, ensuring inclusivity for all individuals interested in acquiring automotive technical skills. Our objective aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on poverty eradication, decent work environments, and economic growth,” she emphasized.
With this initiative, Coscharis Motors continues to play a pivotal role in fostering economic empowerment, workforce development, and innovation in Nigeria’s automotive industry.
