Dangote Petroleum Refinery has taken a bold step toward reshaping Nigeria’s energy and logistics sectors with the arrival of 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks in Lagos. The announcement was made on Saturday via the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, ahead of its ambitious nationwide fuel distribution launch on August 15, 2025.
A shared video showed the massive vessel offloading the trucks, while a sweeping drone view revealed thousands of gleaming vehicles lined up—symbolizing the scale and seriousness of the refinery’s new strategy.
“We are delighted to receive 4,000 brand-new CNG trucks as part of our bold distribution initiative, championing cleaner energy and more efficient transportation across Nigeria and beyond,” the company stated.
This delivery is part of a ₦720 billion investment by Dangote, aimed at transforming the petroleum supply chain. The new system will allow the refinery to deliver petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel directly from its facility to filling stations, factories, and major fuel users—cutting out middlemen, reducing costs, and speeding up delivery.
According to MSME Africa, this new distribution approach could help Nigeria save over ₦1.7 trillion annually by cutting down on fuel transportation costs and improving energy efficiency.
Key Benefits of the Initiative:
- 42 million MSMEs expected to benefit from better fuel access
- 15,000 new jobs to be created in logistics and distribution
- Dormant filling stations may return to full operations
- CNG trucks will cut emissions and support Nigeria’s clean energy goals
- Meets Nigeria’s daily demand of 65 million litres of refined products
Energy experts, independent petroleum marketers, and even the Presidency have welcomed the initiative, calling it a game-changer for Nigeria’s fuel economy and a significant step toward modernizing the downstream oil sector.
