The Lagos State Government has expanded its rural electrification programme to additional communities across the state, aiming to enhance power supply and improve living standards in rural and semi-urban areas.
According to a statement from the Lagos State Office of Rural Development, the initiative follows directives from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to provide stable electricity to underserved communities and stimulate grassroots economic growth.
Among the latest beneficiaries is the Diamond Estate Community in Command, Ipaja (Agbado Oke Odo LCDA), which has received a newly installed and fully energised transformer. Chairman of the Diamond Estate Community Development Association, Mr. Olayiwola Lookman, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to rural infrastructure and thanked the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje, for overseeing the project.
Other communities benefiting from the expansion include Idojigbo and Badore West One in the Igando-Ikotun LCDA, both receiving new transformers to improve electricity supply. Community leaders described the intervention as a lifeline for residents, supporting small businesses and enhancing quality of life.
Significant progress has also been recorded in the Ikorodu Division, where Heritage Estate (Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA), Golden Paradise Estate (Mowokekere), Ewu-Agbo Community (Agura), and Iradelu Itesiwaju Community (Imota LCDA) received new transformers under the initiative.
The Rural Electrification Programme forms part of the governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, which prioritises infrastructural development in rural and peri-urban areas to ensure equitable access to essential services. The initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, addressing power infrastructure gaps across all local governments and LCDAs.
