In a bold move to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to renewable energy, Huawei Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing green energy solutions through innovative solar technologies and strategic partnerships.
Jim Zhang, Huawei Nigeria’s Board Director, emphasized the company’s dedication at the opening ceremony of a two-day training program titled “Green Energy and Solar Power Training” on March 13, 2025, in Abuja. Organized in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and the Ministry of Power, the initiative aims to equip 55 participants with essential knowledge in solar energy and its applications.
Zhang highlighted Huawei’s 26-year presence in Nigeria, during which it has played a pivotal role in advancing telecommunications infrastructure. The company has partnered with major telecom operators like MTN and Airtel to deploy 4G and 5G technology across the country.
Beyond telecommunications, Huawei has made significant strides in Nigeria’s energy sector. Zhang disclosed that the company has already supplied nearly 100 megawatts of power through its Smart PV and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). These solutions not only address Nigeria’s power challenges but also support a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.

She emphasized the importance of institutionalizing solar training within the civil service to drive long-term adoption.
“The world is shifting towards clean energy, and Nigeria must align with global sustainability policies. This training will not only reduce costs but also contribute to environmental preservation,” she noted.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Mahmuda Mamman, reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering private-sector partnerships in energy transformation. He acknowledged Huawei’s role in bringing cutting-edge technology to Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.
“Collaboration between government, industry, and technology providers like Huawei is key to building the necessary infrastructure and human capital for a green energy economy,” Adelabu said.
Looking ahead, Zhang reaffirmed Huawei’s dedication to working closely with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to implement efficient and scalable energy solutions.
“This year, we aim to strengthen partnerships that will drive Nigeria towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future. Our commitment remains unwavering in supporting Nigeria’s progress through technological innovation,” he concluded.
Huawei’s ongoing investment in renewable energy and capacity-building initiatives underscores its broader mission of empowering Nigeria with cutting-edge digital and energy solutions, paving the way for a greener and more resilient economy.
