In a strategic move to fortify Nigeria’s telecommunications infrastructure, IHS Nigeria, a leading telecoms infrastructure provider, has signed a landmark partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The collaboration is designed to enhance the security of critical national telecom assets—ensuring greater connectivity, service reliability, and socio-economic stability across the country.
The agreement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signifies IHS Nigeria’s growing commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR), national development, and sustainability through public-private partnerships.
Protecting the Backbone of Nigeria’s Digital Economy
Nigeria’s telecommunications infrastructure is increasingly under threat from vandalism, theft, and sabotage—issues that not only disrupt connectivity but also affect emergency services, education, banking, and national cohesion.
Under the new partnership, the NSCDC will deploy its security expertise and nationwide presence to monitor and protect IHS’s over 16,000 telecom towers and 15,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables. The Corps will also support investigations, respond to emergencies, and assist in the prosecution of crimes affecting telecom infrastructure.
Mohamad Darwish, CEO of IHS Nigeria, highlighted the broader social impact of the initiative:
“Connectivity is the lifeblood of modern society. This partnership strengthens our mission to support Nigeria’s digital transformation and ensures that communities, businesses, and public services remain connected.”

National Security Through Collaboration
The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, praised the alliance as a practical step toward fulfilling the Corps’ constitutional mandate of protecting critical national assets.
“This partnership underscores our unwavering dedication to national security and public safety. By securing telecom infrastructure, we protect livelihoods, safeguard national intelligence, and promote economic resilience.”
CSR in Action: Supporting the NSCDC with Tools for Impact
Beyond collaboration, IHS Nigeria is backing its commitment with action. The company donated two fully-equipped operational vehicles to the NSCDC to support field operations and enhance rapid response capabilities.
This gesture reflects IHS’s CSR philosophy of shared value, ensuring its business growth goes hand-in-hand with community and national benefit. The donation not only boosts operational efficiency but also signals long-term investment in the institutions that protect Nigeria’s development assets.
Enabling Sustainable Development
This partnership directly supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by fostering resilient infrastructure and enhancing institutional capacity.
Through this initiative, IHS Nigeria sets a strong example for responsible business practice, aligning profit with purpose and reinforcing the essential link between secure infrastructure and national progress.
As Nigeria works toward becoming a digitally empowered economy, securing the backbone of that transformation—its telecom infrastructure—becomes paramount. With this partnership, IHS Nigeria and the NSCDC are not only safeguarding assets, but also building the trust and reliability needed for sustainable and inclusive national development.
