Interswitch is strengthening its role as a driver of economic efficiency and public sector reform through e-invoicing innovations that enhance revenue optimisation, compliance, and transparency across Nigeria and Kenya.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially accredited Interswitch as both an Access Point Provider and System Integrator for Nigeria’s mandatory e-invoicing system under the Monitoring, Billing, and Settlement (MBS) platform.
Launched on August 1, 2025, and initially targeted at large taxpayers with turnover above ₦5 billion, the MBS system is designed to curb tax evasion, improve financial transparency, and boost government revenue collection. The platform validates invoices in real-time, replacing paper-based systems while capturing transaction details such as buyer, supplier, quantities, prices, and taxes.
Through its accreditation, Interswitch is providing businesses with a fully compliant e-invoicing solution that integrates seamlessly with the FIRS platform, automates reporting, reduces human error, and ensures more accurate tax submissions.
This recognition builds on Interswitch’s earlier selection by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in 2024 to power the country’s electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS). By enabling compliance across two of Africa’s largest economies, Interswitch is demonstrating how digital policy frameworks can unlock economic resilience and modernize fiscal systems.
Muyiwa Asagba, Managing Director for Commercial Inclusion at Interswitch Group, emphasised the broader implications:
“These initiatives go beyond compliance. They represent a structural shift in how businesses and governments interact driving transparency, accountability, and efficiency that strengthens national economies.”
Interswitch’s public sector work extends beyond tax administration. The company recently received approval from the National Pension Commission (PenCom) to deploy a digital platform for pension remittances, furthering its mission to strengthen critical national financial systems.
By aligning with regulatory reforms and delivering secure, innovative technology, Interswitch is helping governments across Africa increase fiscal stability, foster competitiveness, and accelerate digital transformation for long-term economic growth.
