The Lagos State Government has unveiled a ₦500 billion Produce-for-Lagos Off-taker Guarantee Fund aimed at boosting food production, reducing imports, and strengthening the state’s agricultural supply chain.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who made the announcement at the Lagos House in Alausa, described the initiative as a critical part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for food security. The program will be executed through the Lagos Food Systems Infrastructure Company, with support from entities like Ekolog and Lagos Bulk Trading Company.
To enhance logistics, Lagos also unveiled 150 CNG-powered 40-foot trucks to ease food transportation. “Lagos consumes over 50% of food traded in the southwest and loses nearly half due to poor logistics,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Key dignitaries at the event included governors from Kogi, Niger, Taraba, Ogun, and Ondo States, along with federal ministers and private sector leaders.
UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu pledged ₦25 billion, while Niger State Governor Umaru Bago offered 500,000 hectares of farmland to support the program. Minister Bosun Tijani and CDS Gen. Christopher Musa praised the initiative as visionary, data-driven, and vital for food and national security.
The initiative marks a significant step toward building a resilient agricultural ecosystem and connecting rural producers with Lagos’ ₦6 trillion food economy.
