Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has affirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the newly established South West Development Commission (SWDC) to drive infrastructural renewal, industrialisation, and youth empowerment across the state.
The governor made the pledge during a reception in Ode Aye, Okitipupa Local Government Area, held in honour of Ondo State’s representative on the commission, Dr. Jide Adewinle. Aiyedatiwa commended President Bola Tinubu for creating the SWDC, describing it as a visionary step toward addressing developmental disparities, harnessing regional potential, and promoting sustainable growth in the South West.
“With the right leadership and collaboration, the Commission will serve as a powerful tool for economic revitalisation, infrastructure development, and social transformation in our region,” the governor said.
Aiyedatiwa pledged to work closely with the SWDC and other federal institutions to ensure that Ondo State fully benefits from ongoing and future development initiatives. He emphasised key areas of focus including regional integration, agriculture, industrialisation, and youth empowerment as pillars of the state’s development agenda.
Congratulating Adewinle on his appointment, the governor described it as a recognition of merit, competence, and years of dedicated service.
In his remarks, Adewinle outlined the SWDC’s core mandate to promote regional development through strategic investments in education, infrastructure, welfare, and economic empowerment. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Governor Aiyedatiwa, and the people of Ondo State for the opportunity to serve.
“The establishment of this Commission is a continuation of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s vision for a prosperous South West a region thriving on unity, innovation, and development.
The SWDC, established through legislation passed by the National Assembly and assented to by President Tinubu, is tasked with accelerating development and improving living standards across the six South West states, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti. Its focus areas include infrastructure development, poverty reduction, job creation, and strategic regional projects to enhance economic integration.
