Hajiya Fatima Aliyu, has launched a conditional cash transfer initiative under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, aimed at boosting girl child education across the state.
Aliyu said the programme was designed to ease the financial barriers that often force young girls out of school, ensuring they remain enrolled and focused on their studies. She described education as a pathway to building “a more just and prosperous society,” urging parents to support their daughters by prioritizing school attendance and academic concentration.
The National Coordinator of AGILE, Ms. Fatima Buba-Haruna, explained that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen enrolment, retention, and transition of adolescent girls in public schools. She emphasized that empowering girls through education not only transforms individual lives but also uplifts entire communities.
Beyond financial support, the project has renovated classrooms, provided learning materials, improved water and sanitation facilities in schools, and created safe spaces where girls can learn and thrive. Programme Coordinator Dr. Mansur Isa-Buhari noted that the mission goes beyond enrolment—ensuring girls learn in inclusive, supportive environments that encourage growth and creativity.
Parents and community members hailed the initiative as a “beacon of hope,” affirming that the AGILE project is changing the narrative of education for girls in Sokoto State and across Nigeria.
