The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has earmarked ₦25 billion to enhance security infrastructure in tertiary institutions nationwide.
chairman of the TETFund Governing Board, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, made the announcement in Katsina while outlining the agency’s 2025 intervention projects.
According to Masari, the funds will be channelled into initiatives such as street lighting and other safety-enhancing infrastructure to safeguard students, staff, and facilities.
“This intervention is to ensure our campuses remain safe and conducive for learning,” he said. “Institutions will focus on projects that directly address security challenges, from improved lighting to other protective measures.”
In addition to the security boost, TETFund has disbursed over ₦100 billion to selected tertiary institutions to expand training capacity in medical sciences, tackling Nigeria’s shortage of healthcare professionals. Under this initiative, three institutions from each geopolitical zone have received ₦4 billion each to strengthen their facilities and programmes in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and allied health fields.
These interventions are funded from TETFund’s record ₦1.6 trillion revenue in 2025, generated from the 3% education tax on company profits. From this revenue:
- ₦460 billion is going to projects in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
- ₦225 billion has been allocated to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support the federal students’ loan scheme.
- ₦70 billion is set aside to help institutions deploy solar or gas-powered energy systems for uninterrupted power supply.
Masari assured that TETFund maintains a strict monitoring and evaluation framework, with consultants ensuring funds are used exclusively for approved projects.
